Sustaining Yourself by Harnessing the Energy of Your Home and Work Environments We talk about sustaining the environment and using sustainable products and methods, but how do we sustain ourselves? We sustain ourselves with good food, healthy lifestyle choices and, as much as is possible, living in harmony with our environment, whether that means building green or appropriately siting a house on a piece of land. Energies exist in our environment, whether natural or manmade, and Traditional Feng Shui is the method by which we assess those energies, from large to small scale. By harnessing this energy properly, benefits will permeate through a region, to a neighborhood, to a family, to an individual. When the energy of a region is sustained, the neighborhood prospers; when the neighborhood is sustained, the family or business prospers. That is why it makes sense to incorporate Feng Shui at all levels of development and building. In siting and designing a building, its relation to the specific land-form and built-form in the vicinity must be considered. One size does not fit all. Examples of the natural forms we analyze are mountains, bodies of water, arroyos, and trees. The man-made forms we analyze include buildings, power lines, roads, drainage ditches and ponds. The location of garbage bins, driveways, neighboring buildings, fences/walls, and landscaping also contribute to the quality and flow of energy, and how and when you may be affected by them. Sometimes the energy flows freely and gently and can be captured, and sometimes it flows too fast or too slow and is only appropriate for certain building uses. The building or residence then must be designed correctly in order to make use of the energy. The quality of energy the building could receive must be considered as well. If you understand that the energy gets into your building through the front door, then think of the door as your mouth - what type of food (energy) are you feeding it? That is why we do not like buildings to be near cemeteries, hospitals or power lines because the energy getting to your door is not a good quality. It?s like eating fast-food. You can still live on it, but compared to home cooking and fresh food, you will not reach your full potential. A building adopts and holds the particular energies created by its surroundings. These energies give the building a quality which in turn influences the personality of the occupants. The building is you. The physical condition of each building part will represent the physical condition of the respective body part. If you are not feeding your business or home well, it may be more difficult to sustain yourself in the long term. By using Traditional Feng Shui, the consultant can read the energetic effects that are related to money, communication, employees, career and health to help improve these potential problems. Once the external energies are improved, then we will turn to resolving the internal energies. We review and suggest changes to door locations and furniture layout based on traditional formulas. Light and color are other elements we use to help improve the energy. In difficult situations, when the energy is blocked or insufficient because prescribed changes cannot be made, interior water formulas may be used to create beneficial energy. People are generally resistant to change they are comfortable in their daily habits like they are comfortable in their house or their routine at work. Making changes using Feng Shui is about increasing opportunity. Feng Shui is not a magic pill that makes money grow on trees or health cures fall from the sky. Our own human energy is sometimes insufficient to overcome the environmental influences. Our bodies can only react. In order to resolve problematic energy issues, you must be willing to change the condition of your business and/or residence and therefore the condition of your mind and body. Your home is where you spend at least one third of your life, and work is where you spend another third. It is logical to maximize the potential for prosperity, abundance and opportunity. Traditional Feng Shui can be applied to residences, offices, retail shops, and, on a grander scale, large shopping malls, subdivisions and regional developments. It takes a broad-picture look at the energy of the environment from the regional surroundings all the way through to the location of your bed or desk. Traditional Feng Shui is an investment in yourself and our shared environment. Sustain yourself, your family, your career, and your business with Traditional Feng Shui.
