Feng Shui is an energy management system for buildings, the land on which they sit and the people who live and work in them. Its purpose is to balance and enhance the environment of a space for its occupants.
What is energy? Energy to a building is as food and nutrition are to the human body. Wikipedia lists different types or forms of energy: Kinetic, radiant, gravitational, electrical, magnetic, elastic, chemical, thermal. Some energy can be seen, like breaking waves on the seashore or heatwaves across a hot desert. Some energy can’t be seen, like gravity or radio waves going through space. Energy transfers into or is some kind of movement. The earth rotates on its axis every 24 hours creating heating and cooling on the earth’s surface. The moon orbits the earth every 28 days creating gravitational effects. The earth orbits around the sun every 365 days and it rotates with an axial tilt of 23 degrees, creating the four seasons, and tropical and desert zones. The core of the earth is molten rock. The earth’s outermost shell is comprised of tectonic plates that are moving and shifting. We have a magnetic north pole. All of these scientific phenomena have an effect on the land, our structures and consequently on human beings.
